Yes, we don't need to blame individuals who have no power over the circumstances.
Feel free to criticize the US government, British government, Russian government, NATO, or any government. The same for politicians and leaders. The more truth about them the better. Most of them have a past filled with lies, destruction, or other wrong-doing.
Their collective failures have resulted in the NATO/Putin/Ukraine crisis as well as the mess in the Middle East. Borders and agreements have been drawn by powers without the consent of the people most affected by them.
It took years of mistakes and misdeeds to get us here. And yes, all of humanity is vulnerable to the most dire and deadly consequence of past and present actions.
The most sane thing the world can do would be universal nuclear disarmament. But the leaders often don't care and governments are too incompetent.
We can't force peace throughout the world. We can't eliminate the darkness and evil within leaders. Sometimes the best an individual can do is to seek peace within himself and participate best he can through whatever his vote can help accomplish.
And this takes me back to Trump. He lost and proceeded to incite a coup to overturn the election. This would have CANCELED my vote and the votes of 81 million Americans.
He promises vengeance and retribution if reelected. He makes it clear he intends to make every effort to punish anyone who opposes him and who holds him accountable to the rule of law. Putin and Trump are both such authoritarians. They take what is not theirs, no matter the consequences.
Do you see why this is so important to so many of us?

I think the NATO/Putin/Ukraine crisis as well as the mess in the Middle East wasn't a result of democracy, but of preceding wars, autocratic powers, and elected governments' lack of foresight in evaluating possible consequences. Even the best of intentions can result in catastrophe.
The world has seen how a flawed democracy like the US can produce a president who would start a war in Iraq based on lies.
Trump's present power is his influence over the worst of America's white racists and reactionary people. And since he is likely the Republican nominee for president again, he is a clear and present danger to our democratic institution, rule of law, and civil stability.
As you know he can order a mob to terrorize Congress, beat cops bloody and to overturn an election. His loyal followers have shown a willingness to KILL for him. This makes him an imminent threat in or out of office.
He can't start an international war, but he can incite civil war violence and domestic terrorism. He has a cult following that trusts his every word as gospel and justification for their ignorance, bigotry and hate.
His crimes have posed a difficult problem for our justice system. The possibility of such serial criminal actions by a president was never addressed before.
We will find out from the trials if he is held accountable or if he is above the law. If he's above the law, we no longer have the necessary equal justice under law that a democracy needs to survive. He is testing both the strengths and flaws of our political and justice systems.
If Trump had the power of Putin, I'm sure he would behave the same way.
