Republican Senators demonstrated their utter lack of shame and regard for facts as they performed for their audience of one particular criminal in the White House.

The slimy sycophants attempted to snare Mr. Smith in a “perjury trap” in order to further punish someone the Criminal President hates. They shamelessly spewed lies and conspiracy theories in their desire to frame an honest and patriotic man.

Important pressing questions needed answers, like, “Do you believe in the Easter bunny?” “Do you believe in the tooth fairy?” Senator John "You Want to Make Me Throw Up In My Mouth" Kennedy needed to know this before he smugly helped to hold up the “proof placard” that Mr. Smith went to Atlanta to conspire with Fani Willis in her case against Trump’s election interference in Georgia. This was when the Criminal president demanded from the governor to “find 11,780 votes” for him.

The Christian nationalist senator from Missouri put on his tough guy demeanor as he presented lies, a false accusation of perjury, and venomous personal insults to the courageous man who dares to speak truth to power. He was salivating at his "gotcha" moment. "I don't think you know that we have this stuff, so I'll give you a second to process it so you don't perjure yourself." 

Calling Mr. Smith a “dirtbag” was the crowning projection from the vile Senator Eric Dirtbag Schmitt. He and his panel of mindless aides would take any internet conspiracy to use for evidence, including the lie that Mr. Smith went to a basketball game in Atlanta. (On the day in question, Mr. Smith attended a women’s basketball game between Iowa and Maryland.) 

Oops.

Former Special Counsel, U.S. Department of Justice

before the Committee on the Judiciary U.S. Senate

September 29, 2026

Chairman Grassley, Ranking Member Durbin, and Members of the Committee, thank you for the opportunity to discuss my work as Special Counsel in the investigation and prosecution of President Trump for his alleged unlawful retention of classified documents and obstruction of justice, and role in attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election and interfere with the lawful transfer of power.

I have been fortunate to serve a country that I love for nearly 30 years in local, national, and international settings. My service has spanned both Republican and Democratic administrations. I am not a politician, and I have no partisan loyalties. My career has been dedicated to serving our country by upholding the rule of law and the core principles on which our country was founded.

I believe that there is no role for politics in the proper administration of justice. A prosecutor’s decisions must be based on the facts and the law. The status, power, prominence, or political affiliation of the subject of an investigation must play no role in decisions to investigate, prosecute, or decline prosecution.

I approached my role as Special Counsel following these principles. The Special Counsel’s Office followed Justice Department policies, observed legal requirements, and took actions based on the facts and the law. I stand by my decisions as Special Counsel, including my decision to bring charges against President Trump. I made these decisions without regard to President Trump’s political association, activities, beliefs, or candidacy in the 2024 presidential election. Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in criminal activity. If asked whether to prosecute a former President based on the same facts today, I would do so regardless of whether that President was a Republican or a Democrat.

The charges against President Trump were the result of the evidence. Grand juries in two separate districts reached this conclusion based on his actions, as alleged in the indictments they returned.

Rather than accept his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results and prevent the lawful transfer of power. The evidence showed that President Trump attempted to induce state officials to ignore true vote counts; to manufacture fraudulent slates of presidential electors in seven states that he had lost; to force his own Vice President to act in contravention of his oath and to instead advance President Trump’s personal interests; and, on January 6, 2021, to direct an angry mob to the United States Capitol to obstruct the congressional certification of the presidential election and then exploit the rioters’ violence to further delay it. Over 140 heroic law enforcement officers were assaulted that day, fact we should never forget.

And, as set forth in the original and superseding indictments issued in the Southern District of Florida, President Trump stored classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago social club after he left office in January 2021 and he repeatedly tried to obstruct justice to conceal his continued retention of those documents. Highly sensitive information was held in non-secure locations, including a bathroom and a ballroom where events and gatherings took place. Tens of thousands of people came to the social club during the time period when those classified documents were stored there.

As with my appearances before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary, I am prepared to answer your questions truthfully. I stand by my testimony before the House of Representatives. I will not be silenced by the continued threats of prosecution from the President or others.

I will also adhere to the Justice Department’s authorization governing the scope of my testimony while constrained by Judge Cannon’s order restricting the discussion of Volume II of my report regarding the classified documents case. As a result of Judge Cannon’s order and the Justice Department’s interpretation of that order, I am not permitted to discuss the contents of Volume II of my report and can only discuss matters with respect to that case if they are set forth in the indictment or other public filings. Similarly, I cannot discuss the contents of the documents at issue in the case due to their sensitive nature.

As I appear before you today, it is my belief that the rule of law faces challenges unlike any we have experienced in our lifetime. Individuals are threatened with criminal investigation because they are perceived to have opposed the President. Predetermined outcomes increasingly seem to take precedence over the Justice Department’s long-standing core values, traditions, and norms.

History teaches that the rule of law is rarely destroyed all at once. It is often weakened by attacks on the institutions and public servants sworn to uphold it. Since January 2025, we have witnessed precisely such an effort, including the vilification of the career prosecutors, FBI agents, and support staff who served on my team, simply because of their unwavering commitment to the fair and impartial administration of justice without regard for any personal costs. 

I myself have been threatened with jail by the President of the United States.

I remain confident, however, that the rule of law will endure because so many continue to uphold it faithfully each day. Throughout our legal system, public servants have remained faithful to their oaths despite extraordinary pressure to do otherwise. Their example demonstrates that while fear may be contagious, courage is as well.

And how is that morally superior, or any different from, someone saying, “Death to America”?

Yes, they were helping Iraqi insurgents. But who LIED about WMDs, “biological labs”, “nukular aluminum tubes”, and ties to al-Qaeda in order to start that war of choice? George W. “You’re either with us or against us” Bush.

That war claimed up to a million Iraqi lives, and almost as many were killed in Afghanistan.

Ah, but we did get fooled again, didn’t we? We installed a serial criminal and aspiring dictator into the Oval Office.

If the greater evil is measured by the body count inflicted upon innocent human beings, the US, Pol Pot, Trump's pal Putin, and Israel are the greater evils since the Korean War. And that’s not even including the millions of Vietnamese killed by the US war to defend South Vietnam’s dictatorship.

Ed Sheeran's American tour has run into MAGA/Zionist censorship. The billionaire fan of cheap hookers Robert Kraft forbids politically incorrect speech in "his" stadium that the taxpayers bought for him. (I'm sure Putin thanks his pal for the Super Bowl ring.)

Other stadium owners quickly rallied to the call for censorship. The opening acts and Sheeran's band had enough and left the tour. Poor Ed. Welcome to MAGA/Zionist America.

Gee, so what happened there? It's as if someone quoted and spoke the truth about the racist Charlie Kirk after he was shot. (People were actually fired from the jobs for that transgression.)

So what does Trump do? Why, he sends Israel a couple $ billion more in weapons that Americans paid for. Never mind the depleted munitions he wasted on waging his war  on Iran for Netanyahu.

Americans are paying thousands of extra dollars for food and fuel prices that Trump's war is costing us. But billionaires still deserve more tax cuts, amirite?

Unconditional aid to Israel must end. What happened to "America first", anyway?

Here's what needs to be done as soon as we evict the Criminal President and his mob from the White House.

Along with ending unconditional tribute to Netanyahu, ending the Citizens United "corporate personhood" BS, and reforming the Supreme Court, ALL wealth over a $1 billion should be forfeited as a wealth tax.

I have a confession.

I voted for a Republican once.

It was for Gerald Ford.

I thought he was a decent guy and unlike Nixon, relatively honest. I had misgivings about Carter because a Southern Baptist in the White House didn't appeal to me. I suspected he would inject evangelicalism into our government. 

Of course, he proved to be one of the most honest and decent presidents we ever had. He didn't impose his religion on us, but acted in accordance to his faith. We don't see that in today's Christian Nationalist MAGA crowd.

After Ford pardoned Nixon, that was the end of my voting for Republicans.

I didn't trust Ronnie "Aw Shucks" Reagan at all, and I was validated by his October Surprise deal with Iran for holding the hostages until after the election.

Iran/Contra told me they would stoop to any lie and betrayal of our country for power.

Since then, I have vehemently opposed the Republican Party. Union busting and tax cuts for the rich told me exactly where they wanted to take our country.

The "Reagan Revolution" resulted in the rebirth of the Confederacy and imposition of corporatocracy in disguise. The age of the Economic Royalists had returned.

I have no resentment for those who voted for Republicans in the last century, but I was disappointed and a bit perplexed when they voted to re-elect Bush after he lied us into war. I will blame FOX News more than them. 

I even tolerated friends and family after they voted for Trump in 2016. Barely.

But after 2020 and 2024, they only drew my disrespect and revulsion for their obvious lack of critical thinking, vacuous values, indifference to truth, and tolerance of indecency, blatant lies, and criminal conduct.

I still welcome any remorse they show for supporting Trump and will forgive them if they finally wake up. Otherwise, I cannot forgive the racists, greedheads, dupes, and willfully ignorant true believers who support the most vile, corrupt, and criminal occupant to ever sit in the Oval Office. I cannot abide any ideology that so gleefully inflicts pain and suffering upon non-violent people they happen to hate.

As far as I'm concerned if anyone supports Trump's Big Lie, criminal election interference, and his pardons and rewards for his J6 thugs, they are the worst of us who deserve only scorn and contempt. These MAGA loyalists are the racist and bigoted authoritarian ilk that would have been loyal Nazis in 1930s Germany. 

It's time for Americans to wake up and smell the fascism. I can only hope it's not already too late.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking. What is it? I’m sure to the MAGA mob mentality it’s some kind of insidious form of Marxism or "wokism". They would be wrong, as usual. Look at a Trump rally, where the Criminal President declares, “I love the poorly educated”. Their malevolent mendacious messiah can tell them any lie and they will believe it, regurgitate it, and even enforce it with violence.

Unfortunately they are not the only group that has never been concerned with critical thinking. It takes curiosity and effort to practice it. Many people have neither the time nor inclination to bother with it. To the functionally illiterate, intellectually lazy, and incurious masses it’s something completely off their radar. This is one of humanity’s gravest flaws. Without critical thinking humans are as easily herded as sheep.  And, indeed they are. They will believe and follow authoritarian leaders, which has NEVER resulted in a more just, equal, prosperous, and stable democratic society.

Rational and civil discourse becomes impossible with cults and the willfully ignorant.

And the problem is it isn’t always just them. People with higher intelligence, or average intelligence like myself, can slip into authoritarian prejudice and bigotry, snap judgments, unconsidered impressions, and impulsive actions. Who among us has never said or done anything stupid? It’s very easy to forget to use an important tool for our own well-being, or survival.

Before further any discussion on critical thinking, let's have a look at stupidity.

Why Is Critical Thinking Important?

Critical thinking is a skill that has applications in practically all aspects of daily life. It can help you make better decisions, improve employability, and better understand the world. In other words, critical thinking is a fundamental skill for being a 21st-century citizen.

What Is Critical Thinking Used For?

Critical thinking has various functionalities in everyday life, whether in fulfilling professional obligations or carrying out personal activities. Thinking critically is used to:

Make good decisions: it is important as an exercise to analyze and evaluate sources of information based on their truthfulness, relevance, and reasoning, which leads to better decision-making. Ask or question before blindly accepting things as they appear, and form your judgment based on the facts, information, and knowledge available.

Richard Feynman famously said, “The first principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool.” Science is how we correct for this tendency toward self-deception. That’s why I spend the first third of the semester exploring how we come to our beliefs, the limits of our perception and memory, the importance of skepticism, the cognitive biases that can lead our thinking astray, and the logical fallacies we use to convince ourselves (and others) that our conclusions are justified.

Influential voices in the skeptical community played a crucial role in shaping the ingredients of critical thinking I use in Science for Life and Thinking Is Power, which include the following:

Being aware of our limitations: Understanding that our perception and memory are flawed, and the biases and heuristics our brains rely on to make fast and easy decisions can lead us astray.

Arguing with evidence and logic: Using arguments that are well-structured and supported by evidence. This includes understanding how the different types of arguments work (i.e., deductive, inductive, and abductive) and avoiding logical fallacies.

Thinking about our thinking (metacognition): Actively examining and questioning our own thought processes—including the source of our knowledge, assumptions, intuitions, motivations, emotions, and biases—and how they might influence our judgments.

Embracing nuance and uncertainty: Avoiding the black-or-white thinking that can lead to oversimplified conclusions and accepting that our knowledge is never perfect or complete.

Seeking objectivity: Actively working to counter the limitations that prevent us from accurately understanding the world. This includes seeking diverse perspectives, separating our identity from our beliefs, and prioritizing accuracy over ego.

Having curiosity and open-mindedness: Possessing a desire to learn and understand by asking questions and seeking out information, even if it contradicts what we want to believe.

Maintaining healthy skepticism: Balancing gullibility and doubt and proportioning our beliefs to the available evidence. And remembering that claims made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Exhibiting intellectual humility: Recognizing the limitations of our knowledge, being open to the expertise of others, and being willing to change our minds with evidence.

We finally arrive at the "prime directive" and core value of critical thinking.

"Willing to change our minds with evidence". This is the unattainable basic requirement for critical thinking that eludes the authoritarian personality and MAGA mindset. I'd wager that not one Trumpist has read this far, yet will dump their willful ignorance, hate, and stupidity in response.

The image above will be called "antisemitic" by Zionists. I don't buy it.  Zionists will enforce their version of political correctness for this "offense". Substitute the Israeli flag with "ICE" or a red MAGA hat and the message still resonates. Authoritarian fascist brutality exists under every flag, in every religion, and in every population.

We have some more symptoms of Zionist Fever from my fellow blogger that beg examination. He's an atheist, and I agree with his assessment of the cruelty and authoritarianism that is rampant in fundamentalist political power, especially Muslim and Christian. But he gives the Netanyahu regime a pass for their authoritarian cruelty to Palestinians and theft of their homes and land. He sounds more like a member of Netanyahu's regime. The body count is meaningless to him. It's as if he believes every innocent victim in Gaza and Iran deserves to die because the Israeli government and Trump hate them.

This is a recent sample of his extreme Zionism.

The likely next Democratic senator from Minnesota is an enemy of Israel, but not in the same league as El-Sayed, Mamdani, or Platner.

Bizarre accusations against Jews have historically led to actual persecution -- which makes the current "Gaza genocide" lie all the more alarming.

Notice how he frames it in Zionist terms, "Enemy of Israel" and "Bizarre accusations against Jews".

Zionists will insist anyone who fails to support unconditional military aid to Netanyahu's Israel is an “enemy of Israel”.

This is the mirror equivalent of MAGA fascists declaring peaceful protesters are “terrorists”, the press is the “enemy of the people”, and anyone who opposes Trump “hates America”.

As I noted above, this is what happens if we criticize the Netanyahu regime.

At least 73,391 Palestinians have been reported killed in the Gaza Strip since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, with 70% being women and children. That’s a lot of innocent blood on the hands of the “good guys”.

Would a rational and objective person and over 174,280 of the Gazan people that have been injured call it genocide?

a: a sovereign or state associated with another by treaty or league

b: the Allies : the nations that fought together against Germany in World War I or World War II

2: one that is associated with another as a helper : a person or group that provides assistance and support in an ongoing effort, activity, or struggle

No, the United States does not have a formal mutual defense treaty or alliance with Israel. No, Israel doesn’t financially support the United States. And no, Israel has never been a military ally of the United States.

It’s a “One Way Ally”. Foreign aid has been cut to every other country but Israel.

But we’re always reminded, “Israel has the right to defend itself!”

Okay.

Does apartheid have the right to defend itself?

Does illegal occupation have the right to defend itself?

Does theft of homes and land have the right to defend itself?

Does expanding its borders towards a “Greater Israel” have the right to defend itself?

Does ethnic cleansing have the right to defend itself?

Does genocide have the right to defend itself?

These are different questions with different considerations. Apartheid, occupation, ethnic cleansing, and genocide are bad. Most of the world agrees Israel is guilty of these. 

“Greater Israel” is the Zionist version of the Third Reich’s “Lebensraum” expansion.

Zionists will quickly condemn me as “antisemitic” for daring to compare ANYTHING the Israeli radical Right says or does to the Third Reich.

Too often left out of the discussion is, “Do Palestinians have a right to self-defense and the land they lived on”? Or do Palestinians have any rights whatsoever?

Do Zionists have a right to attack me for these questions and observations? Is this included as Israel's right to self-defense? Good questions. I’m willing to let the facts make my case.

I’m sure I would be accused of supporting Hamas if I dare to point to the fact that establishing the ethnoreligious state of Israel was lighting the fuses to the powder kegs of permanent war in the Middle East. Israel has been at war from before its inception. I don’t blame the Jewish people. Ultimately it’s all Hitler’s fault. (This surely won’t stop anyone from calling me antisemitic.) The WWII Allies, minus the Soviet Union, had sympathies for a Jewish state. It was well-intentioned, albeit ill-considered, to serve as compensation for the people who suffered from the Holocaust.

I believe it would have been a better idea to allow the European Jews to move to the United States instead of displacing Arabs in Palestine. (Am I still being antisemitic?”)

That’s all history and we can’t turn back the years. Now the difficulty is finding a way for Israel, its neighbors, and Palestinians to get along with each other. It’s never easy to reach an armistice for ancient tribal religious wars.  The only way I see out of the mess is to convince Muslims and Jews of the fact that religion is their primary problem, despite both being Abrahamic in origin. 

It’s the nature of religious conservatives and nationalists to become hostile to people of other faiths. “God told us”, or “God promised us this land”, will ALWAYS be the wrong solution to tribal/religious conflict.  

Yet here we are. I’m not just blaming Jews and Muslims, either. American Christian nationalism suffers from the same delusions.

Recently a fellow blogger who strongly dislikes dissent, especially from me, made his case for supporting Trump’s war for Netanyahu. Now he’s no doubt angry at Michigan for voting for Abdul El-Sayed over the Zionist woman who was backed by over $30 million in AIPAC money. Abdul's sin was to agree with the broad international consensus that the Netanyahu Regime was committing ethnic cleansing and genocide. He’s troubled by the Democratic Senate candidate for suggesting support for Israel should be conditional and that our money would be better spent helping Americans. Again, this is antisemitic in Zionist eyes.

"Vote blue no matter who" is just "my country right or wrong" on the level of a mere political party rather than a nation.  In both cases, applying it without regard to the details of the particular situation could lead to supporting some pretty awful things.

In 1991, when anti-Semite and former KKK "grand wizard" David Duke ran for governor of Louisiana as a Republican, the party repudiated him and major Republican figures such as President Bush vigorously denounced him.  This week, after Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic Senate nomination in Michigan, prominent Democratic figures rallied around him -- even some like Buttigieg whom I would have expected to know better.  Only a few, such as Fetterman, had the guts to speak out against him.

This may be a sign of the degeneration of politics in general over time.  I'm not at all sure that today's Republicans would repudiate a candidate like David Duke either.

Zionist Republican senators sent a threatening letter to the International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor: “Oppose Israel and we will go after your family — You have been warned".
