17.8 Tons Of Medical Supplies...To China!

I'm not blaming Trump or anybody for the coronavirus. In fact, Trump and his administration weren't the only ones to fail to grasp the severity of the coming pandemic. Many in the corporate media downplayed the danger. Denial is a universal human defense mechanism.

An important difference is Trump was warned by intelligence officials in January. Afterwards he downplayed the threat.

Whatever his reasons for denial, it was still perhaps just a fallibility of human nature. But that doesn't mean he isn't guilty of unconscionable lies and negligence.

How can any sane and compassionate American not be horrified at how this corrupt, impeached Republican president is botching the federal response to the coronavirus?

We've heard his long string of dismissive lies, minimizing the danger of COVID-19, AFTER he was informed the pandemic would be here soon. In fact, it was already here at the time he was pushing his disinformation.

By January 29th cases were reported in 17 countries. In China, the outbreak surpassed that of SARS. Five cases were confirmed in the U.S.

By February 2nd the death toll topped 300, including the first fatality outside China. The World Health Organization and U.S declared a public health emergency.

By this time everybody should have known the threat is real.

Yet...

On February 23rd he declared, “We have it very much under control in this country.”

On February 26th he said, “And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”

And his behavior only got worse, even as he signs the stimulus.

Now he and his party are not just picking corporate "winners and losers", as the Right has projected so thoroughly on Democrats. His demented ego is playing personal grievances and favorites into matters of life and death in a national crisis with deadly consequences.

We've witnessed his childish, vicious, and personal attacks on the governors of Washington and Michigan, and his reluctance to facilitate aid even to his native state.

He wasn't so reluctant at sending offers of help to Iran, North Korea and China, though. He never met a dictator he didn't like.

It's as if he is at war with Americans who dare question his imperious and vengeful rule. His vendetta towards governors who won't praise him is blackmail, bordering on genocide.

Apart from his vindictive self-centered nature, here's one other explanation why our "War President" has been punishing states with governors who fail to praise him.

Note the date. It is weeks after he had been told we were going to be hit by the lethal coronavirus, and his cronies did this anyway.

The United States Announces Assistance To Combat the Novel Coronavirus

MICHAEL R. POMPEO, SECRETARY OF STATE
FEBRUARY 7, 2020

This week the State Department has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to the Chinese people, including masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials.  These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people.
Today, the United States government is announcing it is prepared to spend up to $100 million in existing funds to assist China and other impacted countries, both directly and through multilateral organizations, to contain and combat the novel coronavirus.  This commitment – along with the hundreds of millions generously donated by the American private sector – demonstrates strong U.S. leadership in response to the outbreak.
This assistance only adds to what the United States has done to strengthen health security programs around the world.  For the last 20 years, the United States through USAID has invested over one billion dollars to strengthen the capacity of more than 25 countries to prevent, detect, and respond to existing and emerging infectious disease threats.  Since 2015, under our commitment to the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), this support has helped improve surveillance and laboratory systems, risk communication, outbreak response, and address the rising threat of anti-microbial resistance.
The United States is and will remain the world’s most generous donor. We encourage the rest of the world to match our commitment.  Working together, we can have a profound impact to contain this growing threat.
~~~~~~
Even if this aid had been planned before the pandemic directly threatened us, maybe our leaders could have cared for the health and welfare of Americans enough to reconsider sending to China the supplies that we would so desperately need.
Tragically the president has decided "Let them die" is his policy towards millions of "disloyal" Americans.
Jerry,
What else could we expect from a sociopath who betrayed us to Putin? Of course he will betray us to the deadly coronavirus. Nothing is as important as his selfish narcissistic ego. It is more important to punish "disloyalty" to him and his regime, than to serve our country.
JTF,
Yeah, That's a lie.
It was the constitutional duty of patriotic lawmakers to impeach the corrupt criminal and that was on December 18th.
Trump wasn't "working" on anything of the sort, and it's beside the point. His lies and minimizing of the virus are plain to see. The nation didn't need that kind of "work".
Pence would be running their efforts anyway, as if the Dotard had any special abilities.
“Hysterical xenophobia … and fear-mongering" are Trump's primary messaging, and are present at every rally.
Here's the actual quote from Biden:
“We have, right now, a crisis with the coronavirus,” Biden said in Iowa Friday. “This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria and xenophobia - hysterical xenophobia - and fearmongering to lead the way instead of science.”
Corona was crossed out in his notes and "Chinese" was added to virus. Asian Americans were assaulted due to this xenophobia.
I bet you're mystified at Romney having that alien quality called a "conscience".
This is what you will never have, or have long buried under your fanatical hatred of all those who are not an authoritarian follower of the most dishonest and crooked party and president ever.
Yet, still we progressives want all you Trump cultists to have healthcare. What does that say about who the hateful ones really are? Progressives and real Christians are in favor of healing the sick. Why aren't you?
Oh, and you didn't show where I was wrong in any way.
That would require facts that counter my statements. ;-)
Womp Womp. This is a pathetic attempt at blaming the Democrats for this Administration's utter failure.
Of particular hilarious note: Mentioning Pelosi ripping of the State of the Union address as if that matters at all to anything at all? Trump "talked" about the Coronavirus in exactly one paragraph and mentioned the virus only in that one paragraph. Once. I kind of actually wish the President took even this miniscule statement he made seriously. Even attempted to safeguard the citizens of our great nation would have been preferable to what he did.
"Protecting Americans’ health also means fighting infectious diseases. We are coordinating with the Chinese government and working closely together on the coronavirus outbreak in China. My administration will take all necessary steps to safeguard our citizens from this threat." - DJT, SotU Feb 3rd 2020
But, sure. Okay. Waaaahh waaaaah, it's the Dems Fault! The Dems! Ignore the President dismissing the virus in January. Ignore the President calling it a political hoax. Ignore everything the President has said and done that are to blame. It's the Dems!
You and where you get your regurgitated talking points are comically awful. The COVID19 doesn't discriminate and doesn't pick political sides. This isn't a political situation and defending the President's abhorant reaction is pointless and an utter waste of your time. Especially considering many of the administration seem perfectly okay if you, JTF, contract the virus and die if it helps the stock market.
"What does that say?" - DD
It says these people we engage with in good faith and interact with a part of general society are broken. JTF and the miasma of other JTF-like people spouting the same deflections and garbage are broken. There's something wrong inside their head. They've dived too deep into the Dittohead/Snakeoil Salesmen/Smarmy Megachurch Pastor morass that they can't see through to the other side where their fellow countrymen and sanity reside, pleading for them to join us.
Just think how the $24 million sent to the the Kennedy Center for the Arts is going to improve those who are unemployed due to the corona virus.
"Look! The House impeached Trump! They hate America! Look! Pelosi tore some paper! She hates America!" who are you quoting or is this just another example of you lying?
What a difference a week makes. The same socialist progressive who told the citizens of NYC to go out and see movies after the President put the travel ban in place..
"That would require facts that counter my statements" I have but you won't publish.
Right wing liars will distort this of course.
PBS reporter Alcindor said covering Trump has become “like a team sport” and they “Have each other’s back”. Trump verbally attacked her and wouldn’t let her ask a question with direct quotes from him. Jeremy Diamond passed the mic to give her a chance to finish her question. NEVER did she say this was in “opposition” to Trump. That is how Trump’s liars framed it.
I apologize to TB3 for inadvertently deleting his message that was buried under numerous spam from JTF.
Yes, there ARE people with jobs at the Kennedy Center who need help and the facility must be maintained. JTF just wants to punish them, of course.
And $24 million is a drop in the bucket compared to over a TRILLION in corporate welfare. JFT seems to love corporate persons more than living persons. Otherwise, why would he be so upset about that?
TB3,
Finally a fact. Too band JTF still hates unions...
https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/coronavirus/seiu-locates-39-million-n95-masks-for-healthcare-workers-local-governments/2262072/
"Service Employees International Union United Healthcare Workers West announced Thursday that it located 39 million N95 masks and will make them available to state and local governments and health care systems that are fighting the novel coronavirus outbreak...
...Union representatives have connected procurement officials from each recipient directly to the supplier to arrange each transaction. Hospitals in Arizona have also been offered 2 million masks from the supplier but have yet to accept, according to Regan.
"While we are pleased with these initial results, we recognize they are stopgap measures in light of the estimated 3.5 billion masks that could be needed during this pandemic," Regan said. "We urgently need the federal government to step in and drive a coordinated national response to the PPE (personal protective equipment) shortage."
"39 million face masks were found in California,,,amazing ." - JTF
Is this meant to be mentioned in derision? Cause this is a comment you made to an article about the US Government giving away its stash and leaving this country vulnerable. I think it's admirable private organizations and people are trying to make up for the foolish decisions our Government has made under this administration.
But, whatever. It doesn't matter. Your M.O., JTF. Just keep attacking, never address the points being made. Attack. Attack. Attack. Then whine when you're moderated for not actually contributing to the conversation with substance.
Broken.
Dave Dubya said...
TB3,
"Attack. Attack. Attack." Yes, this is because he feels threatened by facts.
But to be fair, that's not all he does. His what-about-ism also spews forth in abundance.
"Look! The House impeached Trump! They hate America! Look! Pelosi tore some paper! She hates America!"
I wonder who I could possibly be para-phrasing...Who says stuff like that?
Dave Dubya said...
TB3,
JTF presented a plagiarized, or un-credited piece, again, asking you if it was “attack, attack, attack”.
I would say such behavior in itself is an attack on my comment standards so clearly given.
Let’s have a look anyway. It was from an authoritarian far-Right website that featured this quote on the page:
"Inside Every Progressive Is A Totalitarian Screaming To Get Out"
Gee, how could anyone feel these very fine people are attacking anyone?
Here’s the title of the piece:
“America's Superb, Unappreciated President”
Immediately after praising Dear Leader, the writer blamed Dems for impeaching Trump.
And JTF is wondering who I was paraphrasing? LOL!
Dave Dubya said...
Moscow Mitch is leading the chorus:
"It came up while we were tied down in the impeachment trial. And I think it diverted the attention of the government because everything every day was all about impeachment."
Whoever could I have been paraphrasing?
Whiny bitches and their fake excuses. Clinton did his job during his impeachment and trial.
Dave Dubya said...
Republican Doug Collins is another useless liar who wants to blame the Democrats impeachment for the Administration's dereliction of duty.
"Think about this → the first #coronavirus case in the U.S. was confirmed on January 15.
The same day, @SpeakerPelos delivered the articles of impeachment to the Senate.
Maybe if she stopped playing political games, our country could focus on what really matters."
"Look! The House impeached Trump! They hate America! Look! Pelosi tore some paper! She hates America!"
I wonder who I could possibly be para-phrasing...Who says stuff like that?
"Waaah! Evil dems think we can walk and chew gum at the same time".
For all the idiots out there, this is paraphrasing them.
Jerry Critter said...
Dave - “ Clinton did his job during his impeachment and trial.“
Of course he did, but the Clinton is a Democrat and Democrats can do more than one thing at a time.
Dave Dubya said...
Jerry,
Yes, every day we learn the "party of personal responsibility" can't be personally responsible. Whine, lie, blame, and deflect is all they do.
Snowflakes.
Dave Dubya said...
I won’t publish the Red State propaganda sent by JTF. But I will point out it supported what I wrote in the opening sentences.
As I wrote:
Trump and his administration weren't the only ones to fail to grasp the severity of the coming pandemic. Many in the corporate media downplayed the danger. Denial is a universal human defense mechanism.
An important difference is Trump was warned by intelligence officials in January. Afterwards he downplayed the threat.
JTF kindly offered a quote from a Red State author noting a January 6th New York Time article about the virus that relied on Chinese reporting. He blames the authors for not “raising the alarm”, but how could they have, when they didn’t have enough information?
Yes, China did underplay the virus, and then Trump followed their example. This is why JTF and Red State want to deflect.
Meanwhile:
foreignpolicy.com
Was the U.S. adequately prepared?
While the White House seeks to pass around the blame, evidence is mounting that the United States should have been better prepared to face the pandemic. A leaked U.S. Department of Defense report from 2017 surfaced yesterday warning of a “novel respiratory disease, particularly a novel influenza disease” as the most likely pandemic threat.
On March 25 in Foreign Policy, Micah Zenko called the coronavirus pandemic the “worst intelligence failure in U.S. history” and one that rests squarely on Trump’s shoulders, given the warnings that intelligence agencies provided.
Dave Dubya said...
Natasha Bertrand reports:
The government has yet to curtail exports by US companies, however—roughly 280 million masks in US warehouses were purchased by foreign buyers on Monday alone, per Forbes. FEMA told us it “has not actively encouraged or discouraged U.S. companies from exporting overseas.”
What happened to "America first"?
Kamala Harris tweeted on Feb. 12th:
"Unacceptable that no one from the Trump administration came before the Homeland Security committee today to discuss the coronavirus. We need public hearings so the American people can hear directly from officials leading the response to the crisis."
