“Real American” Values and Personal Responsibility

The recent shooting at a Dallas police headquarters offers a disturbing glimpse into the crazed hate cult of the American Right.

After James Boulware was convicted of domestic violence his child was taken by Child Protection Services and placed in care of his grandmother.

Since the police were the ones carrying out the action, Boulware became very angry with them.

We all know what can happen when we add anger plus weapons and mix with untreated mental illness.

Apparently Texas won’t confiscate guns from those with mental illness and domestic violence convictions.

It seems some of the mental illness and anger were inherited from the shooters father.

When interviewed, the father told us who was really to blame.

Yup. It was all the liberals’ fault.  Big surprise.

James Boulware Senior explained.

“I knew he was angry at police, he blamed them for taking his son. I tried to tell him the police didn’t do it. The police were doing their job to enforce the laws. If you want to get to that, you’ve got to go back to the liberal people that put these laws in place, to where CPS and all can grab kids.”

When asked, “Why didn’t he get some help?”

“Where? Where does a white male get help?”

And there it is. The perfect snapshot of the American Right, wrapped in white male victimhood while scapegoating liberals.

FOX Nation on display. They’ve done their job well.

There’s your gun-totin' personal responsibility and freedom for ya.

And there’s this tale of another "good guy with a gun"... until he isn't:

“An Iowa mall cop — with a Facebook account loaded with open-carry and right-wing memes and photos of multiple weapons — is under arrest for shooting and killing a fellow mall worker because she filed sexual harassment complaints against him.”

Samples of his “Gun-toting Constitution loving American” facebook gun nuttery are posted at Raw Story .

America, land of the "Second Amendment Remedies".

George Carlin was right. This country is finished.

I don't know of anyone that is a supporter of the 2nd amendment, inlcuding the NRA, that wants felons, those with domestic violence convictions, or mental illness to have firearms.

What is your solution, Dave? Do we disarm all of the law abiding Americans?

That would sure make is easier for all of the violent criminals that refused to turn in their weapons. Then we really all could become the victims that the left portrays itself as being.

TP,
There's a vast spectrum of actions between allowing criminals and the mentally ill to possess weapons and universal confiscation.

I do not support disarming the American public. I grew up hunting and fishing and am a responsible firearm owner. However, I don't cling to my guns and wave a Gadsden flag in an ideological crusade for the far Right, as these sorts do.

The far Right "Second Amendment Solution" mentality is a sickness fueled by the NRA and industry. And those same interests wield a disproportionate amount of influence in our governing process. One example is MOST American support background checks on firearm purchases. It hasn't happened.

While the NRA says it doesn't wand criminals and the mentally ill armed, it does its best to obstruct laws that would allow those background checks and disarming of the mentally ill and perpetrators of domestic violence. As with all political powers, what they say and what they do are often not the same.

They do not compromise. Instead they wave that ideological flag and reinforce the paranoia of "Obama the commie" coming to take their guns.

And you know they do this. It is harmful to civil society at so many levels.

In case you didn't notice, the victim card is not being played by the left here. In fact it is the opposite. Liberals are targeted for blame, thus the "Values and personal responsibility" are shown as hypocrisy.

Liberals are to blame for everything by these fanatics. And they are armed.

What's wrong with this picture? Who feeds into this hate and paranoia?

Remember that incident in a Universal Unitarian Church in Tennessee when a right wing terrorist killed and wounded the parishioners for being "liberals"? Adkisson even wrote a manifesto urging the ideological murder of every liberal. He immersed himself in the writings of Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage and other right wing extremists.

Can you recall a time when a liberal gunned down innocent victims for being conservative?

How much human sacrifice is enough?

There's not much an individual can do, except to call out the hate and ignorance that so often perverts Americans into seeing other Americans as the enemy.

There is a great institutionalized evil upon our land that desires this mentality.

I hope your eyes are open to it.

Hmmm… every gun that I bought over the years required a background check. I too am for these checks to ensure that felons and the mentally ill do not legally acquire firearms. I am not sure where you live where these background checks are not done, my friend.

As for Obama and the left trying to take away our guns, well… what they cannot do carte blanche, they are trying to do incrementally. See my latest post with specifics: http://savingcommonsense.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-progressives-continuing-mission-to.html

I agree that there is way too much incendiary language and hateful rhetoric being applied in the public square on most any issue today. This is something that is done by both sides of the political spectrum. Instead of debating, we yell at each other, shout each other down, and dismiss out of hand what the other side is saying. You are kidding yourself though if you don’t think the left is the biggest problem with these Saul Alinsky tactics though. If I disagree with most positions on the left, I am branded as a bigot or a hater.

And I certainly don’t condone violence and murder from either side of the political spectrum. Whoever is guilty of such crimes needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of their ideology.

My eyes are indeed open to this evil of us dividing ourselves apart and calling the other side our enemy. While I vehemently disagree with many of the left’s propositions and positions, I do not hate or wish ill of them. Many friends and family members are among this group. I love them and simply wish to debate with them in order to show them the wrongness of their ideas, just as I welcome them to do the same with me.

If we don’t quit with the escalation of the hateful rhetoric on both sides, only more evil actions will become of it.

When someone says, "Both sides do it", that means the worse perpetrator has one the battle!!

"Both sides do it", has been the standard false equivalence offered by corporate media, as they shrug, "We'll have to leave it there".

Note the growing hysteria of "white male victimhood" as only black bodies seem to pile up.

While the left is accused of "Saul Alinsky tactics", whatever that means, the far Right resorts to false accusations, demonizing, and murder. What do we call those tactics?

"Fascist tactics" seem to fit best.

Both side DON'T do that. This is why I had to update this topic with the post comparing radical Right Wing Christian terrorists and radical Islamic terrorists.

Yes, if we insist on calling them Islamic Terrorists, then we'd damn well call McVeigh and others Christian terrorists.

Those of the authoritarian far Right have no conscience and remorse, and will continue their hate and violence.

Our friend TP has a conscience and rightly disavows the hate and violence, but seems to be under the impression of the same false equivalence.
