No wonder they hate the "RINO" who dared to show some sanity. Thomas Massie observed, "I think it's ironic that we control the House, Senate, Supreme Court, and the White House, and we're yelling 'election fraud'? I mean, we won all the damn elections."
On Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 majority to allow the Department of Homeland Security to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 350,000 migrants from Haiti and Syria.
They have a higher employment rate than the general population, so they are clearly not hear to “take free money and handouts”. Corporations and billionaire oligarchs get most of that loot anyway.
Yeah, it’s the racism again. The “eating the dogs” smear was just setting the stage for the white nationalist purge and to keep punishing people of color. In case I haven’t made it clear by now, fascists are known by their extreme hate, racism, and eagerness to harshly punish anyone they hate. This is MAGA at its core.

The Criminal President threatened our right to free speech and dissent with, "These people should be put in jail, the way they talk about our judges and our justices, trying to get them to sway their vote, sway their decision”.

This nation, in its abject ignorance, has, through its vote, willing allowed the stripping away of everything that actually made it a beacon of freedom and liberty. The authoritarian fascists have won. For now.

We've always had race infecting our politics Dave.
Prior to the mid 1960's the Dems were the racist pigs against whom we battled. But then something happened. As reported and deeply documented by Robert Putnam in "The Upswing", the central events were the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
Americans by large margins supported all of these important laws. But, as Putnam lays out in his book, that support was more existential. That's to say before they became laws, Americans of all stripes were supportive. But once they became law, with Republican support of a Democratic president, something happened.
A wide swath of America said we'd moved too fast, we needed to pump the brakes on all this "equality" stuff and work on civil rights.
That wide swath was white southern voters.
In 1968 the newly more progressive Dems nominated Hubert Humphrey. A northern liberal. Then avowed Alabama Governor George Wallace, of "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" fame. The GOP nominated Nixon, a strong "Law and Order" candidate, who appealed to people upset with protesting on race issues and the Vietnam War.
America nativist Pat Buchanan, the forerunner of MAGA and US isolation ran the opposition research part of Nixon's campaign. Buchanan has stated, on the record, that in 1968, the Nixon campaign was worried most about Wallace and his racist voters, because those people he said, "we're Nixon voters".
In the 1980 campaign Reagan was capitalizing on the "Southern Strategy" of the Nixon Campaign to defeat Carter, the Willie Horton ad from GHW Bush, the McCain has a "black love child" from GW Bush in the South Carolina Campaign and then the birther movement against Barack Obama.
None of these facts are able to be challenged. The record is clear. Since 1968, the GOP has purposefully and intentionally looked for ways to invoke race and America's prejudices in order to scare angry white voters and win presidential elections.
MAGA and the election of Trump is not the aberration some claim, it is the logical conclusion of a 60 year journey.
This week's SCOTUS ruling on TPS and Asylum are but two other examples.
The conservative side has argued for suspension of Temporary Protected Status for immigrants to the US, and those seeking asylum from danger in their home countries. Race is not supposed to be a factor in determining the efficacy of our policies. But of course it was. It was so blatant in fact, that the conservative side of SCOTUS took great pains to explain that Trump's policies are not racist, because the Admin hates all immigration.
In effect, the admin claimed that the fact all of the countries affected are majority POC, is simply a coincidence. The underlying prejudice was so blatant that Justice Kagan detailed the president's verbatim racist quotes—including 'shithole countries' and 'poisoning the blood'—in her written TPS dissent, while Justice Sotomayor took the powerful step of reading her biting asylum dissent straight from the bench.
Conservative Justice Alito objected from the bench, saying if he'd known she was going to read the dissent, he'd have included a defense in his majority opinion.
But of course, that was a lie as SCOTUS business is all a matter of public record and we have the emails showing he did know ahead of time. Confronted his blatant idiocy, Alito claimed it was all a misunderstanding. No apology, no admitting a mistake or a provable lie, but a misunderstanding.
Because he is in service to a party and a viewpoint that has been tearing America apart since the mid 1960's.
It's a viewpoint that grew as a reaction to people of color getting an opportunity to be part of all America, not just the custodian closets, the nightly janitorial service or the legions of weekly mow, blow and go Latino gardeners that keep America's lawn neatly manicured.
I would agree that Southern Democrats (Jim Crow, Dixiecrats, etc.) were racists. Same with Southern Republicans today.
Northern Democrats and Republicans were far less racist. It was more about geography than party platforms then.
FDR should be recognized for his efforts to end racial discrimination.
FDR's Executive Order 8802: Signed in June 1941, this banned racial and ethnic discrimination in the defense industry and government. It was the first presidential directive on race since Reconstruction and established the Fair Employment Practice Committee to enforce these rights.
The Roosevelt administration appointed liberal justices to the Supreme Court who eventually laid groundwork for desegregation, including the 1944 Smith v. Allwright decision, which overturned white primaries and expanded voting rights.
Credit is due to Ike for supporting desegregation and his Civil Rights Act of 1957.
Then JFK came along with his vision.

By the 1960 presidential campaign, civil rights had emerged as a crucial issue. Just a few weeks before the election, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested while leading a protest in Atlanta, Georgia. John Kennedy phoned his wife, Coretta Scott King to express his concern, while a call from Robert Kennedy to the judge helped secure her husband's safe release. The Kennedys' personal intervention led to a public endorsement by Martin Luther King Sr., the influential father of the civil rights leader. The publicizing of this endorsement, combined with other campaign efforts, contributed to increased support among Black voters for Kennedy.
This resulted in his June 1963 proposal of the sweeping Civil Rights Act.
Trump has done more damage to race relations in the US since Jefferson Davis.
Methinks trump is merely the culmination, and perhaps one of the most egregious examples, of a much deeper ill in American culture and society in general. The racism in American culture and society was cultivated during the colonial European and American era of indigenous exploitation which was also supported by Empire Christian beliefs and values, and like it or not those same values exist today in millions of Americans.
If it were not so neither trump, Project 2025, or the present conservative scotus would be a reality in America today.
It is becoming more and more difficult to believe this era of extreme division, bigotry and racism, political and economic inequality, religous tension, and the ignorance that feeds and drives them all will lessen over the next 60 years.
It will be difficult living in this environment for the time I have left. But at least the time will be short going forward. For this I am grateful.

If we look at racism and bigotry we see it typically coming from those of us with an authoritarian personality. They are filled with fear and mistrust. This makes it easier for them to hate others or see them as threats.
We are not emotionally stable as a species to evolve out of the authoritarian personality.
Early humans living in caves and small bands developed an active amygdala that provided them the fight/flight mechanism that was needed for survival.
This over-active amygdala is what is now stunting our evolutionary progress.
Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn, and Flop are instinctive trauma responses, the nervous system's automatic ways to survive perceived threats, expanding beyond the classic "fight-or-flight" to include appeasement (Fawn) and shutdown (Freeze/Flop), helping people cope by confronting, escaping, freezing, pleasing, or collapsing when overwhelmed.
Here's a breakdown of each:
Fight: Confronting the threat with aggression, anger, or defensiveness; pushing back.
Flight: Escaping or avoiding the danger, physically or mentally (e.g., overworking, hiding).
Freeze: Becoming paralyzed, unable to move or speak, feeling stuck or numb.
Fawn: Trying to appease the threat to stay safe by pleasing others, people-pleasing, or being overly submissive.
Flop/Faint: A nervous system collapse, similar to freezing but with physical slackness, muscle looseness, or even fainting, leading to feeling shut down or hopeless.
Why They Happen:
These are innate defense mechanisms triggered by the brain's amygdala when it perceives danger, releasing stress hormones to prepare the body to survive, whether it's physical or psychological threat. (Or scapegoating, fear mongering, and racist rhetoric fed to them by authoritarian leaders.)
Recognizing Them:
Understanding these responses helps normalize reactions and manage stress, especially in trauma survivors, as they can become ingrained patterns in PTSD or Complex PTSD (C-PTSD). Therapy can help individuals learn to regulate these reactions and find healthier ways to cope.

Dave... Thank God there was a group of people so courageous, so crazy, so thoughtful, so sure of their mission that they sailed across an ocean to found a new country.
Like any successful start up, there were great hits and big misses. Thankfully, the founders thought through the Constitution to give us a way to amend it, bend it, change it and apply it to new generations.
But all of that does not deny that from our inception, the US mimicked the rest of the world in its racism. We imported it into virgin territory, we molded it to our benefit and more than any other country in the world, we used it to build our wealth, our country and our power.
The Constitution enshrined a view that women did not have equal rights and that black people were not full people, but three fifths of a person. The Declaration of Independence enshrined a belief that native Americans, the people who helped ensure the survival of the US settlers, were “merciless Indian savages.”
All of these denials of basic human rights were enshrined on our founding documents. Along with the Bible and religious guidance like the Doctrine of Discovery, our founders and forefathers systematically set about to ruin entire native US populations, people groups and own people of color like chattel.
Was it racism? Of course. Was it right? Not at all. Are we still seeing it today? In some forms, yes.
We, the USA, are who we are because of our racism and policies that led to the destruction of countless lives, families and cultures.

It's highly questionable that the US can ever outgrow its original sins. The Constitution may as well be locked up in a vault. Its antidemocratic flaws like the electoral college and Senate are a curse to this day. No more amendments to secure a more perfect union. In fact MAGA is taking us backwards.
Americans are gullible and ignorant enough to be blissfully unaware of what totalitarianism is like, but we're finding out fast. And a third of our country and its oligarchs love it. Our weak democracy can't defeat a corrupt oligarchy and criminal regime backed by the billionaire club.
Like a spiraling alcoholic the US needs to hit rock bottom to understand it needs drastic change. And countless Americans will suffer when it all goes down.
So Happy Fourth of July. USA RIP. Time for something better. If we can't reform the Democratic Party, we know damn well the Republicans will only be worse.

Racist Europeans conquered lands not belonging to them ,killed, raped, exploited, and forced conversion to Empire Christianity. Those racist folks were the contemporaries of those who sailed to the Americas. And, they brought the racism and bigotry to new shores. And proceeded to walk the same path as their European mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and cousins.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't think voting is going to get us out of this nightmare. Let's say there are free elections in 2026 and 2028 and the Dems win big. There will be assholes who start saying "We need to leave the past behind and move forward."
If by some miracle it's not the Dems saying it, it will be Republicans then demanding that we return to usual way politics works in this country.
All through the Bush/Cheney era I believed the constitutional framework of the country was strong enough to withstand the worst politicians of either party. Now, we've elected an authoritarian supported by the religious fanatics, billionaires, and those who base their existence on being angry and fearful.
The Republican/MAGA party has won.
I've come to believe elections will not get us out of this nightmare. I'm not saying we've come to the point of Revolution. But I don't see any other vehicle available.

I agree. Elections in our crippled republic won't cut it. The criminals in power will assure it. They have the election deniers holding the levers of power in the red states.
They will not allow the House or Senate to change hands. Lawsuits, lies, and vote suppression will be their easy way to deny results in elections they lose.
In the unlikely event Dems take one House, they will be obstructed and likely arrested.
This is dictatorship. It's over. Any of us over the age of 50 will never see the country we grew up in. The only hope if for the young people to finally wake up, but with AI, disinformation, and the news media largely under control of oligarchs, their chances are bleak.

The promise and potential of this once great nation is not looking so promising anymore. The authoritarians are in major positions of power. If 2024 and 2026 do not produce stunning overwhelming defeat of MAGA republicans this nation is finished as a democratic republic.
