It’s time for Reverend Dave to step up to the pulpit with my sermon, “Why Trump hates the Pope”, (and MAGA is ok with it.)
If Trump isn’t the antichrist, he certainly comes closer to being that than anyone else in this century. He is a racist, grifting, sex offending, extortionist and felon who pardons powerful drug kingpins, protects rapists and child molesters, and richly rewards the worst oligarchic servants of mammon in history
Yet he’s “God’s Chosen” in eyes of his deluded cult and duped supporters. He can do no wrong that would elicit their disfavor and diminish their devotion.
The truth is the last thing the MAGA cult is interested in. Trump’s word is their gospel, and journalists who don’t praise him are their hated nemeses.
Last October Pope Leo said journalism is "not only an act of justice, but a duty of all those who long for a solid and participatory democracy."
He quoted Hannah Arendt's "The Origins of Totalitarianism" in asserting that the world needs a free press and objective information. He cited her warning that "the ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist."
"With your patient and rigorous work, you can act as a barrier against those who, through the ancient art of lying, seek to create divisions in order to rule by dividing.”
That
went over like a garlic-covered silver cross would with vampires. In Trump’s view the Pope
is supporting the “enemy of the people”.
The Pope’s next blasphemy against MAGA was directed at Trump’s alcoholic, spouse-abusing war monger Pete Hegseth for invoking Jesus in justifying the slaughter of Iranians:
“This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them, saying: ‘Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood.’”
Leo reminded us and warned others, "Blessed are the peacemakers! Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth.
The “Woke Pope” even dared to mention the characteristic shared by every anti-MAGA and anti-war resister.
It is a world turned upside down, an exploitation of God’s creation that must be denounced and rejected by every honest conscience."
Pope Leo didn’t neglect to include the likes of Putin, Orban, Netanyahu, and the Iranian leadership. He meant ALL tyrants.
"The world is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants, yet it is held together by a multitude of supportive brothers and sisters!" he said.
But it gets even worse, as the “Woke Pope” transformed into the “Commie Hippie Pope”:

It is not communism (Marxism) that that is "bad" per se. Nor is any other form of government "bad" per se. Rather it is the lack of human rights, human dignity, equality, and equal justice for all under the law that is emblematic of authoritarianism and tyranny that is bad. I refer to it as that because it is the fact of the Christian Bible which was edited by and approved by Emporer Constantine in 325 CE during th Council of Niacea.
In truth, trump and netanyahu (with the full support of Zionists and Christian Zionist Nationalists) are fighting to bring about the fake "end times story" right now, in the present age.

JD Vance, who has never been trained theologically, is telling the Pope to be careful with his theology. Has he ever told right-wing pastors to be careful with theirs? Has he ever rebuked Paula White for her idiotic displays in the White House?
The irony of the White House rebuking the Pope for arguing for peace is disgusting—and wrong on so many fronts. It really is a “let me count the ways” moment.
First, Vance essentially brought the Augustinian Just War theory into the spat. “Were we wrong,” he asked, “when we used violence to defeat Hitler and save millions in WWII?”
Most theologians would say no, but they would also point out that an “imminent threat” had to be present, which it was in WWII. But to date, while Trump has asserted an imminent threat, then walked it back, then said it was a few years away, etc., they’ve never provided proof of that imminent threat. Why not?
Also left unsaid is the cavalier attitude toward violence... an almost celebratory stance. Just War theory clearly states that the goal must be to secure peace and justice, not to gain land, power, or act on vengeance. President Trump and Sec. Hegseth have both cited vengeance for Iran’s actions since 1979 to argue for this war.
Augustine also said that the “real evils in war” are loving violence, vengeful cruelty, and the lust for power.
Power, vengeance, violence, and cruelty. Does that sound like some folks we know?
If so, then the actions Vance is defending fall outside of Augustinian Just War theory.
But let’s take another theological dive into the facts...
One of the ways we interpret the Bible—and by extension, Christianity and how we should live—is to look to the oldest sources, those closest to when Jesus himself walked the earth.
For the first 350 years after the death of Jesus, the church, this then-new movement called Christianity, mostly prohibited military service for Christians. It was considered better to be put to death than to sin by joining the military.
Early Christianity was pacifistic in both belief and practice.
Only those already in the Roman army at the time of conversion were permitted to serve, and even then, they were expected to seek positions that insulated them from killing.
So, to JD Vance and everyone else complaining about a Pope who is arguing for peace, I’d simply say this:
The historic, factual witness of Christianity is not on your side.
Finally, let’s take a look at the words of a specific prayer offered by Sec. Hegseth at a recent event. In it he said, “Give them [our soldiers] wisdom in every decision, endurance for the trial ahead, unbreakable unity, and overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy.”
How does that prayer for violence and declaration for no mercy square with the call in the Sermon on the Mount to love our enemies?
Theologian Jacques Ellul asked one of the most searing questions about war and violence as he reflected on WWII: If people truly believed in prayer, why not pray for peace across Europe instead of blessings for the troops? If we truly believed God answers prayer, why not ask for mercy for all, an end to violence, and an outpouring of the sacrificial love of Christ—the very one Hegseth name-checked in his violence-glorifying prayer?
JD Vance was wrong. Plain and simple. And so are Christians who are rooting for more killing, more violence, more death and more tragedy. All in the name of retribution, vengeance and removal of a nuclear threat POTUS Trump had already declared obliterated.

Political liberals display greater happiness, UCI study finds
Results contradict earlier self-reports of higher spirits among conservatives
Prior findings that political conservatives are happier than political liberals have been based on self-reports of happiness. But claims about one’s happiness – just like claims about one’s intelligence or morality – can be inflated by the desire to see oneself in a positive light.
“If you want to know how happy someone is, one way to do it is to just ask them, and this logic has been relied upon heavily in research on subjective well-being,” said Peter Ditto, UCI professor of psychology & social behavior and co-author of the paper. “But another way to think about it is that happy is as happy does, and looking at happiness-related behavior avoids the issue of someone striving to present him- or herself as a happy person.”
To assess differences in happiness-related behavior, Wojcik and his colleagues turned to “big data” sources: online survey takers, American politicians, and Twitter and LinkedIn users with ties to companies or organizations associated with either liberal (Planned Parenthood, for example) or conservative (Fox News) viewpoints.
Specifically, the psychologists analyzed millions of words from Congressional Record transcripts and the photographs of every member of Congress, as well as 47,000 tweets and nearly 500 photos from LinkedIn. They found that contrary to the pattern of greater conservative happiness found in self-report questionnaires, liberals more frequently employed positive language in their speech and writing and smiled more intensely and genuinely in photographs.
“We were surprised by how consistently happiness-related behavior was predicted by having a liberal political ideology,” Wojcik said. “We saw similar patterns of emotional language and smiling behavior among Congress members, Twitter users and LinkedIn users.”
These results belie the self-reports of greater happiness among those who lean to the political right, and Wojcik has an explanation. “People tend to report all kinds of traits and abilities in an overly favorable way,” he said. “If you ask people to rate themselves across almost any set of positive traits – intelligence, social skills, even driving ability – most will rate themselves above average. We observed that effect to be stronger among conservatives than liberals.”

In the prompt, the poll regurgitated Republican talking points, citing the number of migrants that would enter the country each day, — a claim that is highly misleading — and stating that Trump has opposed the bill “to give the Biden administration any wins on an issue that he says they failed to do anything about.”
The question failed to specify a single positive consequence of the bill. Naturally, as a result of this skewed framing, the results showed that a majority supported Trump’s position of blocking the bill from passing.
There are other examples of extreme bias, too. In 2017, one question — asking whether the respondent supported the renegotiation of the Iran nuclear deal — seemed blatantly designed to achieve an answer in support of renegotiation. The question assumed the premise articulated by Trump that Iran was secretly “building up their nuclear capability,” thereby violating the existing terms of the deal.
As The Intercept reported, the question ignored multiple verifications from the International Atomic Energy Agency that Iran was, in fact, keeping up its end of the bargain when the poll came out, instead propagating Trump’s one-sided narrative. The question asserted that some people wanted to let Iran’s violations “slide along,” while others preferred calling Iran out. Unsurprisingly, the poll found that 70 percent of respondents agreed with Trump’s decision to renegotiate the deal.

Dave, I've continued to think on your post, it's themes and implications. Specifically, are we a Christian nation, or a nation made up primarily of people who lean towards Christianity as their default religion.
Coming as I do, from a perspective of an average white guy married to an African American women, and as a guy who works in Mexico, I'm going to assume my thoughts stray from the standard views of most white Americans.
Thinking on Christianity in the US, it's hard for me to accept as serious thought anyone who says our founders were God fearing Christian men.
Our founders denied the humanity of 20% of the people who either came, or were forcibly brought to the states. 20%! How could, how would a true God fearing Christian do that? How does a Bible believing person own another man?
It's not Biblical, ergo, it cannot be Christian.
But there's more. Our treatment of the Native Americans and Mexican people already here was anything but Christian. I shudder to use the word, but genocide accurately describes what the US did to our Native Americans.
Neither of these behaviors are behaviors of a loving group of Christian people. So while I respectfully admit many of those people claimed a respect for the almighty, they certainly did not act like, or treat others as a Christian would.
So, if at our founding we strayed from the teachings of Jesus, any attempt to paint us a Christian nation is just wish casting, probably from people who to this day, do nothing in their lives to honor Christ.

The Senate ratified the treaty and John Adams signed it

The slave owning founders assured the US would have a long history of racism embedded in its DNA. They are also to blame for the Electoral College.
Empire Christianity, Christian Nationalism, and Evangelical Zionist Christianity do little to NOTHING to honor Jesus or his true teachings. A white American male myself I find the above three the most hypocritical paths on the planet.
