"Support The Troops", Or "Support Ignorance"?

Dear Leader says climate change is a Chinese hoax. It is a blatant lie, of course, but that means nothing to con-servatives.

The Orange Savior’s con-servative cult followers, and practically the entire Republican Party, join him in his denial of climate science.

Now we have science denier, and shill for Big Oil, Scott Pruitt in control of the EPA, the same agency he sued on behalf of oil companies. That should work out swell.

There’s an interesting quirk in the far-Right’s demented rejection of science. They revere the military to the point of worship, yet the Pentagon openly disagrees with their delusional anti-science ideology.

Obviously they revere and worship Big Oil PR even more than the military. And apparently they believe Dear Leader, and their cult indoctrination, over Secretary of Defense James Mattis.

In written answers to questions from Democratic members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mattis said, “Climate change is impacting stability in areas of the world where our troops are operating today. It is appropriate for the Combatant Commands to incorporate drivers of instability that impact the security environment in their areas into their planning.”

From Pro Publica:

Trump’s Defense Secretary Cites Climate Change as National Security Challenge

Here are two of the climate questions from Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, with Mattis’ replies:

Shaheen: “I understand that while you were commander of U.S. Joint Forces Command you signed off on a document called the Joint Operating Environment, which listed climate change as one of the security threats the military will face in the next quarter-century. Do you believe climate change is a security threat?”

Mattis: “Climate change can be a driver of instability and the Department of Defense must pay attention to potential adverse impacts generated by this phenomenon.”

Shaheen: “General Mattis, how should the military prepare to address this threat?”

Mattis: “As I noted above, climate change is a challenge that requires a broader, whole-of government response. If confirmed, I will ensure that the Department of Defense plays its appropriate role within such a response by addressing national security aspects.”

In a reply to another question, Mattis said:

“I agree that the effects of a changing climate — such as increased maritime access to the Arctic, rising sea levels, desertification, among others — impact our security situation. I will ensure that the department continues to be prepared to conduct operations today and in the future, and that we are prepared to address the effects of a changing climate on our threat assessments, resources, and readiness.”

Not only does the Cult of Conservatism reject science and the truth, but they reject the assessments of their precious military as well.

If there was any doubt where their loyalty truly lies, it is dispelled now.

Capitalism is their god and corporations are their prophets.

The Cult of Con-servatism's open willful ignorance and disagreement with our own military tells us something deeper. So much for their “Support the Troops” BS. Most of their “Support the Troops” bleating means “support war”, just like liberals have asserted all along.

Cons clearly support ignorance more than they "support the troops".

That should also work out swell.

Swell for them.

Thanks for the lucid commentary, buddy.

You rock, as usual.

So, Arch, you are laughing at what you THINK liberals think, but you're fine with Dear Leader's lie?

Now THAT is funny! Sounds like someone has been over-caffeinating at the Colony Diner.

That tells us more about how you think, or more precisely, how you don't think.

You have chosen ignorance, and are apparently proud of it. Still in Trump lie lie land, we see. Do you think the Chinese are as stupid as Trump?

BTW, Putin loves your usefulness in making Russia great again. Well done, Komrad Arch.

How's that Trumpcare coming along? And how about poor Don the Con getting caught in lie number 23,968 about Obama tapping his phone?

Are you still stupid enough to believe him, or evil enough to abet him?

Those seem to be your only two con-servative options.

Amen, brother. Cons support war, no matter where or when, or for whatever reason. They love permanent war with its never-ending revenue stream -- which supports your other statement: Capitalism is the conservative's true god; corporations are conservative's true prophets.

They couldn't give a damn about the troops.

You're right on the mark. Good writing.

In the wake of Secretary of War James "Mad Dog" Mattis's recent statement that global warming is already destabilizing parts of the world, I find it amusing that "Archie" removed his own comment (7:18 p.m., above) criticizing global warming and the prospect of cap-and-trade initiatives.

Is "Archie" softening his previous stance that global warming is a hoax -- perpetuated by the Chinese, according to his Führer -- and the water is already lapping at his doorstep in his Queens home? ;-)

JG,

You mean this one?

"Dear Leader says climate change is a Chinese hoax."

lol lol that China would slow their economy to follow the Paris Agreement and curb greenhouse gas emissions!

Only in progressive la la land would anyone believe that China and emerging countries would follow such agreements.

Thanks for the laughs Dave!

Maybe he's "teaching me a lesson" for tossing out his trolling. Or maybe he noticed he's in Trump "Lie Lie Land"?

That's it! LOL

The world according to Trump. "Lie Lie Land", indeed.

Yes, Michael, I agree that lying, cheating, and illegal collusion by either major wing of the one Corporate Party is despicable and should never be condoned and is certainly never justified. When either wing resorts to such actions, only the American people get screwed -- which is more and more frequent these days.

Michael, the low representation of the Democratic wing at the federal and state level is truly indicative of the Democrats hitching their collective wagon to multinational corporate and banking interests -- to the exclusion of working people, labor unions, and true democracy. They're essentially in cahoots with the ruling wing, and the both of them hijacked the country several decades ago. You're a very liberal-minded thinker, so I know you agree we need more third-party choices. Viable solutions to all of our problems exist, but those with the answers are always marginalized so the American people are constantly left in the dark. That's why Donald Trump prevailed. He knew exactly what the weak underbelly of the uneducated, under-skilled, and low information types was and he successfully exploited it. Those people never were very adept at figuring out when they've been snookered, so it wasn't too hard of a task. The free coverage by the mainstream media led the way for him. Ironic, isn't it?

It's already apparent that Trump has created the biggest Trojan Horse of our times by including more elites and billionaires in key government posts than ever in United States history. The fix is in. As a nation, we've been had. All those jobs he promised on the campaign trail were empty promises. He never intended to create jobs, and knew it. Wait until the deplorable low-information voters figure it out. They'll go ballistic! Granted, it may take them awhile before they catch on, because honestly they're not very sharp, but when they do -- watch out! The shit's going to hit the fan!

And the new TrumpCare is a miserable joke if I've ever seen one. It'll make the Affordable Care Act seem like the best thing since sliced bread. Did you see how many will be excluded from coverage? The numbers are astounding! And the costs will be astronomical! I'm sure glad I will not have to depend it, that's for sure! Don't you agree?

We're now in the 59th day of the Trump administration and he's essentially done nothing. There's been no major legislation passed, no meaningful presidential proclamations or initiatives showing progress to national goals. He has, for all practical purposes, done nothing except ruffle feathers and further divide the nation. How presidential, don't you think?

I can't wait to see him meet Putin face-to-face. Do you think he'll shake his hand? LOL

I think they will hug and then both of them will do that Russian squat dance.

Did you see the Rachel Maddow show where she showed Trump's tax return for 2005? This unfortunately backfired. Trump paid 25%. Bernie paid only 13% but complains about everybody not paying their fair share. I think the Russians gave Rachel an envelope of money to display Trump's favorable tax return. Its either that she took money from the Russians or she is really really dumb! amirite Jeff?

Anyhow Rachel's rating have tanked and her hyperventilating tirade on Trump's tax return beats Geraldo Rivera for his Al Capone vault episode.

Nothing for most Americans, but then there's this:

Out-of-character-Michael is getting boring. He sounds just like Archie...for some reason.

Defunding the EPA is nothing?

Defunding NPR is nothing?

Building a wall is nothing?

I'm sorry, but that is NOT nothing. I can't live without "Big Bird." I need to go to my safe space in Archie's basement and smoke some good medical marijuana to ease my pain.

Dave, by the way, your blog has gotten really boring. Maybe its because you delete posts that don't match your extreme left views.

Mike, if you're bored try reading the original post. It's not boring at all. Perhaps if you cared to discuss the actual content, you wouldn't be bored, or boring.

"NOT nothing". Good points Mike, but those are still proposals, disastrous and destructive if implemented.

Like this:

Trump Voter Shocked To Find That Her Meals On Wheels Could Be Cut

Linda Preast has used a wheelchair since she had a stroke two years ago and now relies on Meals on Wheels, a service that provides food to millions of people with disabilities and the elderly. The 56-year-old Georgia resident never envisioned when she voted for President Donald Trump that he’d propose slashing funding for the programs.

“Are you surprised?” CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller asked Preast at her home in Jones County Saturday.

“Yeah,” Preast said. “Because he was told ― I was under the influence that he was going to help us.”

On Thursday, White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney attacked the service, saying programs like Meals on Wheels “are just not showing any results.”

“We can’t do that anymore,” Mulvaney said. “We can’t spend money on programs just because they sound good. And Meals on Wheels sounds great.”

=
How reptilian is Mulvaney? Take from the poor and give to the rich. Republicans are evil. If anyone has a better term for them, I'm listening.

Many Trump voters will learn the hard way Trump is "not going to help us", only his cronies, the MIC and the rich will be "helped".

"Under the influence" says it all. Thank you Linda.

Michael, I agree with you that President Trump has done nothing -- now in his 60th day in the role. I say "in the role", because he's only "acting" as president. Like Reagan before him, his days on the small screen prepped him for this latest reality role. Not well, mind you, but prepped nonetheless.

Sixty days in and there's still no major legislation to crow about; no major initiatives to make America great again -- only "grate" again. What do you think he's waiting for? An ovation?

Did you ever think that the Republicans would send not only one, but two, inept actors to the White House? Yeah, me neither. Maybe they should go with a rock star next time? At least the press conferences would be more interesting. ;-)
