Reich Wing Billboard

Look what the lucky drivers in Mason City, Iowa were treated to this week.

This is what emerges from a mind prone to mixing Glenn Beck's radical political ideology, Rush Limbaugh's ignorance of history, and a whole lot of Fox-fueled fear and anger.

Some more sensible Tea Partiers have disavowed this billboard and it is no longer up in Iowa.

But, wow, that is one massive load of radical right wing projection.

"Radical" leaders lie and start wars of aggression, imprison without charges or counsel, and wiretap citizens without court orders. And how could anyone but the fearful and naive actually believe Obama is anything like a dictator?

I don't recall any billboards of Bush that remotely approached this kind of hysteria, despite Bush/Cheney's very real real common behavior with those tyrants.

The fear-mongering, hate-sowing Reich Wingers don't even realize that THEY are living proof of the lie they promote.

If Obama was anything resembling a Hitler or a Stalin, the idiots who put that billboard up would be dead.

******

(I invite you to read even more vivid commentary on this billboard over at OH!PINION. )

You are so right. It is amazing to me they can make these comparisons with a straight face!

lucky we had enough balls to get them to take it down.
It was despicable.

Ya know, that is what I love about your writing Dave...spot-friggin-on!!!

These sick farks vote...and I hope to hell their numbers are way smaller than the corporate media states.

I remember all too well, being lectured by conservatives that criticizing the president in time of war gives aid and comfort to the enemy.

We're still fighting two wars. that didn't change just because we changed presidents.

So will the Al Queada terrorists that put up that billboard be shipped off to Gitmo for a lifetime of torture?

Tom Harper said...

If you said anything slightly critical of George W. Bush, you were a traitor who hated your country and you wanted the terrorists to win.

But now you can say anything you want about Obama. Oh well, I guess that's because Bush is an American and Obama was born in Kenya.

Obama did work hard to help George and Dick get those wars going and to make sure they were well funded.

While he gave us speeches about ending the wars, wiretapping and torture, he was lobbying with Nancy Pelosi to provide any services he could to the Bush administration.

For all I know, he wore silk veils and danced for Bush. He sure seemed to be eager to serve him in anyway he could.

I likely could have forgiven him for a bad vote or two after 9/11, but his faithful and undying support for a program of death, torture and an end to human rights just made me want to puke.

What keeps Bush, Cheney and Obama out of the league of men that billboard purports is the fact that he hasn't actively killed millions of his own citizens as an institutional effort.

Instead they are killing us with economics, lies and by limiting our rights.

Obama has faithfully upheld the Bush doctrine. He continues to make sure that American taxpayers lose their livelihoods to benefit the powerful oil Sheiks that provide war profiteering services, and own the banks that own us.

The only arena he falls short in, is that he hasn't started two new wars to help Muslims in Dubai get richer.

There is still time for that.

Oh, and I honestly believe we'll see the bailouts, round II come after the big economic downturn coming in October.

"Radical leaders prey on the fearful and naive"

That sounds like Bush's base. Save me! Save me! Bomb a village with white phosphorus so I feel safer! Osama Bin Laden is hiding under my bed!

Mauigirl,
They have the straight face of the true believer of a cult. Authoritarian leaders have many unquestioning authoritrian followers. It is not traditional conservatism. It is the authoritarian Cult of Conned-servatism.

Tim,
It is down for now...

Dusty,
Humanity is plagued with authoritarian personalities characterizing nearly a quarter of its population. All it takes for tyranny to take hold is for the 50 percent in the middle to become propagandized or apathetic. I'm afraid our voices in the wilderness need to be louder.

Wease and Tom,
Such truthiness has also been observed by my hero. "America has changed a lot in these four years. Back then questioning the president made you a traitor. Today it makes you a patriot." – Stephen Colbert - 2009

The modern US President is no longer the chief executive of a branch of a government of the people. He is a glorified company co-manager of a corporatocracy. It will not change unless more than a minority of us realize this.

Exactly. If even a tiny fraction of the fantasies of the reich wing were true, they'd all have been locked up long ago.

Dave Dubya said...

Nan,
Yes, just imagine the howls and cries if Teabaggers were treated the same as anti-war, pro-peace groups were under Bush. They would be regarded as potential national security threats, infiltrated by government agents, and put under warrantless surveillance.

And they think Obama is the one like Hitler?!

TomCat said...

It can be said that many lefties made comparisons between Bush and Hitler, but there is a difference. Obama, although imperfect, is undoing many of the abuses to our civil liberties Bush and the GOP imposed. Because Bush started aggressive wars of conquest, because Bush embraced torture, because Bush imprisoned American citizens incommunicado with no access to even an attorney, and for many other reasons, the comparisons between Bush and Hitler were justified.

TomCat,
If not for the hanging shreds of our Constitution, Bush and Cheney would have ruled like total fascists. What's that? They did anyway?

Lew Scannon said...

What these people lack in originality, they more than make up for in stupidity.

TomCat said...

Too true, Dave. As I break down and analyze the Constitution in mu current series, I am reminded daily just how much Republicans have shredded it.

Dave Dubya said...

Lew,
That would be a "fair and balanced" picture of them.

TomCat,
Too bad Democrats seem unable to declare their intentions and efforts to repair the Bill of Rights.

---'The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, because the vast masses of a nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad.

The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them more easy victims of a big lie than a small one, because they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell big ones.
Such a form of lying would never enter their heads. They would never credit others with the possibility of such great impudence as the complete reversal of facts. Even explanations would long leave them in doubt and hesitation, and any trifling reason would dispose them to accept a thing as true.
Something therefore always remains and sticks from the most imprudent of lies, a fact which all bodies and individuals concerned in the art of lying in this world know only too well, and therefore they stop at nothing to achieve this end.
~ Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf

libhom,
Bizarre is their stock in trade. From "Trickle down" to a "thousand points of light" and "we have to fight the Iraqi insurgents over there so we don't have to fight them over here". Now we add, "They hate us for our bananas".

Anon,
As the Party understands in "1984", he who controls the present, controls the past.

Big lies are alive and well in the US almost as much in certain European locales in the last century. Ask the Kenyan born Socialist with the Death Panels.

something much like this is in outstate MO.---- ---“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over,”

they are right about how messed up things are. we need to work harder at telling them the truth. a lot of them hate wall st. too. its fun to yell back, its better to yell together. maybe it will work.

Dave Dubya said...

Anon,
The Republicans are framing this as Liberals v. Wall Street. Authoritarian Teabaggers will side with Wall Street.

S.W. Anderson said...

Dave, tea party resenters will side with Republicans because that's what the overwhelming majority of them have been, are and will be in the future.

That being the case, they will always side with wealthy powerful few over the rest. That certainly includes Wall St.

Dave Dubya said...

SW,
It's not enough for the Reich Wingers to feed into class and ideological warfare, they want to provoke a race war as well.

Weaseldog said...

Ahh Dave! But nobody in the Tea Party is racist! Not even the Klansmen or the Neo-Nazis!

I admit, I'm enjoying the discussion a bit at GTL. Sometime during the Bush administration, I finally learned to tell people to their face that they are lying to me. What a difference it makes when people discover they need to explain why they believe something is true. And it's amazing how often they realize that they don't know why they believe something is true, when they have to try to explain it.

With F&B telling so many lies, I thought it only the honest thing to do, to explain to him that I don't believe anything he says without proof.

Let him weep and moan about how he's a victim. I've heard that song and dance too often.

Dave Dubya said...

Our Reich Wing opposition over there are easily pushed to the end of their tether. Between us calling them on lies, backing our claims with evidence, and generally describing their views as hateful cult indoctrination, all they can do is make up more crap and throw false accusations at us.

I just love throwing the old Reagan "There you go again" at them.

Weaseldog said...

Wow Dave. That F&B character is really stupid.

TomCat said...

Dave, sadly telling the truth about who Republicans are is not politically correct.

Politically correct can tale a long flying %&#* off a short pier.
